Interestingly (and importantly), during my second pregnancy, our entire family was on the Modified Atkins Diet, which we were trying for Lily because it made it easier for Lily if we all ate the same food. I decided to test myself for ketosis, and found that indeed I was ketotic. I discussed this with my doctor, as I wanted to make sure this was not harmful during pregnancy. She stated "actually a lot of pregnant woman are in ketosis if they do not up their calorie intake". I had read many anacdotal stories of pregnant, epileptic women commenting that they had been seizure-free throughout their pregnancy. Its seemed that the doctors were consistently telling these woman that the cause for this related to hormones, but since that moment, I've always felt that it was in fact the ketosis and diet therapy that enabled them to become seizure-free, and thus, this dietary treatment may in fact be a fantastic option for them. If you are, or know of any woman who has a diagnosis of epilepsy please do me a favor and pass on this little gem of information.
